There Was a Little Lamb

There was a little lamb
with sharp and jagged teeth.
Instead of eating grass
he would eat the other sheep.

The sheep that were remaining
to the shepherd went complaining,
but the shepherd didn’t understand, “Baaa.”

One sheep went by hoof
alone into the hills
to reason with the wolf,
“There’s a little lamb to kill.”

While the sheep began explaining
the wolf’s teeth were not refraining,
because hungry wolves don’t understand, “Baaa.”

On the next farm over
there were only milking cows,
luscious fields of clover
and a farmer with a house.

The sheep asked him for training
in the job of milk obtaining,
but the farmer didn’t understand, “Baaa.”

They found an old bear trap
and set it for the lamb.
It triggered with a “Clap!”
but on the hunter’s hand.

With the hunter hurt and straining
the sheep offered help unchaining,
but the hunter didn’t understand, “Baaa.”

The little lamb had grown
even bigger than a yak.
The last sheep was alone
feeling like a snack.

When the last sheep, with hope waning,
pleaded, “Grass is more sustaining!”
the lamb said, “Holy moly! You speak Baaa?”
